Assault With Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm Less Than Murder – MCL 750.84 – Dismissed
Domestic Violence – MCL 750.81(2) – Dismissed
A Detroit man ended a relationship after being repeatedly accused of cheating. Two weeks later, while accompanying his girlfriend to a medical provider, she reported to staff that he had assaulted her. Police arrived and arrested him while he was waiting in the car.
At the arraignment in District Court 17, the girlfriend stated that she could not remember whether she had been strangled but claimed he told her he strangled her. The court-appointed attorney moved to dismiss the case, but the judge denied the request, and the matter was bound over to the 3rd Circuit Court.
After more than a year and multiple court dates, the defendant concluded that he needed private counsel. He retained Attorney Carl Jordan, who argued for dismissal. On July 18, 2022—almost two years after the arrest—the case was dismissed.
