Assault With a Dangerous Weapon – MCL 750.82 – Dismissed

Felony Firearm – MCL 750.227b – Dismissed

Malicious Destruction of Property ($200–$1,000) – MCL 750.377a – 1 Year Probation

A Warren woman was arrested after firing shots at her girlfriend during a dispute involving her current and former partners. The incident began when the client’s ex-girlfriend visited, hoping to reconcile. During the visit, the current girlfriend arrived, and an argument broke out. As the current girlfriend attempted to leave in her car, the client fired a shot that struck the rear passenger-side window. Warren police arrived and arrested her.

After the case was scheduled for trial, Attorney Carl Jordan filed a motion challenging the evidence supporting the two felony charges: Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Felony Firearm. At a hearing before Judge Diane M. Druzinski, Attorney Jordan argued that the prosecution lacked sufficient evidence to support the felonies. The court agreed, granting the motion to quash and dismissing both felony counts.

With the felonies dismissed, the trial was canceled, and the client was immediately sentenced to one year of probation on the remaining misdemeanor charge of Malicious Destruction of Property.
